Learn Quran and Seek the Light, Which Would Lead You to the Right Path!

Quran is a savior of the time when the darkness of despair engulfed the buoyancy to enlighten souls. The miserable stricken soul when find no light at the end of tunnel, turn towards one true Lord for spiritual healing and absolute guidance. Blessed are those who contemplate the teachings of Quran and make it a source of redemption in their topsy-turvy curve of life.

“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, guidance for those conscious of Allah.” [2:2]

Quran learning is equivalent to absorb the commandments of Allah which is composed in Arabic yet it encodes Rab ul Aalameen’s divine speech. Reciting, learning is preparing one’s self for Allah’s rendezvous to embark souls by warding off the dust of ignorance. Quran has guided humankind through definite limitations and anything beyond limitations is count illegal in context of Quran and Shariah.

Concept of “Chosen” and “Forbidden”

Symbolically guidance means to instruct the followers to adopt what is best in their favor in order to shunt the patterns of wrongdoers and ancient pagans. Spiritually it is elaborating the merits and purpose of the orders that why Allah has commanded to abide from embracing things and why He has asked to follow rest to become Mutaqi.

The concept of distinction between accepted and forbidden are highly debated topics. The non-believers use to ask the reason behind banning alcohols, pork, adultery, and lies whereas they mock the lawful thing including polygamy, veil of woman, Jihad in path of Allah and Fasting in Ramadan. Indeed, they are the averted ignorant souls who are oblivion of Allah’s blessings. Despite being their arrogance Allah is their Rab and will guide them till the Day of Eternity as Quran narrated:

“And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature. But He defers them for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing.”

The non-believers are far from the teachings because they never bother to open the book of Allah and probe its meanings otherwise the world would be left with no single heretic to defy the laws of Supreme Lord.

Avoiding the Sinful Acts

Islam is the religion of pure hearts and pure intentions and to this religion, impurity and illegalities are foreign. Allah has kept certain barricades for the faith bearer to accept and deny the rest. If alcohol is haram and banned in the Muslim countries or for Muslims the reason is valid and has scientific implications. Drinking liquor deludes the mental strength and one loses one control hence can succumb to lucrative deeds that are gross sins in Islam. Alcohol is significant if it does not lead to an illusion that is why most of the medicines have alcohol in it.

“They ask you about wine and gambling. Say, “In them is great sin and [yet, some] benefit for people. But their sin is greater than their benefit…..” [Quran 2:219]

Intake of pork is haram either as it is the mother of all sins. It leads to diseases and contain fat bearing materials. Secondly, pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth who feeds on his own excreta. Quran has clear commandments regarding pork as narrated:

“He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah . But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” [Quran 2:173]

Keeping extramarital affairs is illegal and becomes cause of crossing legitimate boundaries. Adultery is allowing one’s intimidate desires and to its satisfaction commits major sin that are non-forgivable in sight of Allah and in Quran.

“… But once they are sheltered in marriage, if they should commit adultery, then for them is half the punishment for free [unmarried] women. This [allowance] is for him among you who fears sin, but to be patient is better for you. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” [Quran 4:25]

True Momin is Who Seeks Light of Quran

Momin is the person who declares his faith upon one lord under pursuit of Shahada and accepts what is quoted in Quran without any argumentation. Quran has clear concept regarding it as:

“It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.” [Quran 33:36]

According to the aforementioned verse Momin are those who willingly handed their matters to Allah and have firm faith in His decision without denying minor or major command. Quran is undoubtedly book of guidance and beacon of Hidayah but question looms who are those who want to seek Hidayah and want to be among the granted ones? The question is easy if one scrutinize the teachings with open heart and mind. Allah has open the portals of human mind towards every sign in the universe that is why He has emphasized and asked the followers to consider these signs in the creation of universe, sun, moon , life and death. While those who are ignorant will remain ignorant and are deaf to Allah’s verses and will never embrace Islam. For those Quran has clear orders that they are the highest ignorant ones who will no matter what mock Quran and verily are in steep of oblivion.

“Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture – those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse.” [2: 159]

In nut shell, the only pass towards paradise and salvation is Quran which is revealed upon the Last messenger for the betterment of entire Ummah. Revert towards it and apply it in daily matter in order to attain the level deemed of high appreciation in the sight of Supreme deity.

The Modern Ways of learning Quran

The modern times have changed the way we previously saw and perceived the world. The evolution of technology has brought the world closer and because of this closeness the access and sharing of information from different cultures has increased adding to the knowledge of ordinary person. Thus, the ways of doing things that were considered taboo in earlier times or which were rendered impossible to do are no more the same, rather the modern world sees them differently and is quite open to their use.

The Islamic world has also transformed in the modern times and Islam has let in the technological advancements and increased learning as a means of propagating Islam and spreading the message of Truth to a global scale. In this regard the ways that have transformed greatly are the ways of teaching Quran. The lines below discus the modern ways of learning Quran in the contemporary world.

Before moving on to the way Muslims learn Quran these days, it is imperative that one realizes the importance of learning Quran. In Quran, Allah Almighty says:

“[This is] a Book revealed to you, [O Muhammad] – so let there not be in your breast distress therefrom – that you may warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers.” (7:2)

From this ayah it is clear that Allah Almighty is the one who has revealed Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and one of the objectives of Quran is to relieve the burden and distress from the breast of the people expose them to the Truth and make it stand as a reminder for all the believers. This remainder reminds the believers about who their Lord is, how they are supposed to live their life, what will happen to them afterwards and how they are supposed to live their life. Therefore, learning of Quran is one of the rudimentary Islam learning initiatives that Muslims take across the world.

Quran Learning In History:

Traditionally from the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) the process of learning Quran revolved around a teacher and the rest of the people studying from the teacher. Muhammad (PBUH) was the first teacher and the Companions were the first students of Quran, from where the chain of Quran learning started and mosques and Madrissas were used for learning Quran. The Quran teacher would be present in such places, and the students would go to the teacher and get lessons on daily basis. This method is equally applicable at present as well, however, other methods have also surfaced that have added to the ways in which a Muslim can learn Quran.

Learning Quran by going to the mosques is one of the most conventional ways of learning Quran. The mosques have long been known as a place where the teaching and preaching of Islam takes place and the message of Allah is spread to people. At the time of Prophet (PBUH) mosque was the place where He would share the revelations with the companions and tell them about the verses of Quran.

Since then the tradition of learning Quran from the mosques has been there and as modern as the world gets, the tradition goes on becoming its part this world. Muslim parents still send their children to learn Quran from a tutor in the mosque. This sending to mosque does not only mean them learning about Quran only, rather, the presence in the mosque gives them a kind of exposure to the Islamic environment where they learn how to pray, how to meet and greet other Muslims and how does it feel to be in an Islamic ambiance. Therefore, mosques at present also continue to be one of the most commonly used ways of learning Quran and Muslims across the world, whether they are in Muslim environment or in a non-Muslim surrounding they resort to mosques as their preliminary source of learning Quran.

Quranic Apps:

The contemporary way of self-learning of Quran involves using Quranic apps. The use of smartphones has revolutionized every aspect of our life, especially learning. The use of apps is a great way of start learning Quran. There are lots of Quran apps available on iOS and Android platforms that help the users in learning Quran without the need of an instructor. There are different features of good Quran applications which a Muslim must consider before  utilizing them for the purpose of learning. Some of the major features to consider are as follows:

  1. Firstly, the Quran learning apps must have word-by-word learning system. This type of learning allows the user to learn Quranic words and there pronunciation from the most rudimentary level. With word by word a Muslim can learn pronunciation and the way alphabets combine to give a word and which sounds get considered and which are eliminated.
  2. Secondly, the Quran learning apps must also contain transliteration as well. Those Muslims who are not familiar with Arabic or its pronunciation, can use the roman transliteration of the Arabic words to make sure that they pronounce the words correctly without any mistake.
  3. Thirdly, the apps should also contain audio recitation so that in addition to imitating the audio for right pronunciation he or she can also learn the right way of pronunciation and correct if he or she is making any mistake in this regard.
  4. Fourthly, the availability of translation of the words and verses of Quran is also a definite advantage, which a Muslim can have pertaining to Quran learning.

Online Quran Academy:

For Muslims who don’t have a mosque nearby or who don’t have time to go to the mosque for Quran learning, the best option available at the contemporary time is the online Quran teaching academy. In this regard has established itself as a brand is world renowned for its online Quran learning services. There are a variety of features that comes with that makes it the best choice pertaining to learning Quran online. Some of the major features are as follows:

  1. Firstly, the online Quran academy offers one to one classes. The availability of one to one classes ensures that the student has full attention of the teacher and the student can easily access the teacher and inquire about learning hurdles and the ways to boost it.
  2. Secondly, the online learning facility at is available throughout the day. Therefore , no matter whenever a student wants to learn Quran, the teacher will always be there to teach him or her and make sure that they learn in the most convenient time possible.
  3. Thirdly, to learn Quran from the student does not have to go anywhere, rather the learning takes place inside the convenience of the home. All the student needs is an internet connection and a Skype Id and the learning can start immediately. Therefore, with online Quran learning the student doesn’t have to go anywhere.
  4. Fourthly, offers multilingual teachers that have command in one than more language. Thus, with their linguistic proficiency they are better able to guide the students and make sure that they are able to comprehend the teacher. This way the student get a better shot at learning quickly and in a better manner.

In a nutshell, although mosques are one of the most used means of learning Quran, however, times are changing and in the contemporary world Quran learning apps and online Quran learning academies are one of the increasingly used ways of learning Quran.

Is Islam in Favor of Female Education Or Against It?

Oppressed, subjugated, and inferior are the words that jolt one’s nerves when it comes to knowing the stature of women in Islam. Islam the religion of peace emphasizes keenly upon the acquisition of knowledge by abandoning gender discrimination. The daily reporting of banning women from education, casting votes, and school demolishing is a cultural perspective by some of the Islamic pseudo pundits who not at all represent Islam and Quran in many of their pursuit.

Western media has considered Taliban the epitome for Islamic representations and put every nitty-gritty detail as Quran and Allah’s commandments. These stereotypes have no concrete ground but are fluke rhymes that have associated with religion Islam by West and its media tarred every Muslim with the same brush. In sight of Allah, men and women both are equal as He says in divine Quran that elaborated the equality of males and females:

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” [Quran 49:13]

Islam and Education for Women

Education is one important edifice on which religion Islam has raised. The religion of peace has flourished back in 7th century because of knowledge. Allah has asked His worshippers to seek knowledge regardless of gender. There was a time of Jahiliya when women were the oppressed entity and were buried alive but Islam rejects that facade of ignorance by elevating the rituals bound to women and honored them with unprecedented rights. Islam granted them with the rights to knowledge acquisition, marrying someone of their choice, retaining their identity after marriage, rights to vote, divorce, owning property and civil/political engagements.

The Seeker and Oblivion are Not Same:

The significance and importance of education for women can be gauged from the verse of Quran in which Allah has unveiled clearly that the seeker of knowledge and the one who is oblivion are not on the same page in His sight. Pertaining to this Ayyah of Nobel Quran how can Islam ban women education or can be against of it?

“….Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.” [Quran 39:9]

Excerpts From the Era of Muhammad (PBUH)

There are few excerpts from the era of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which shed light upon the importance of women education and refute the fake atrocities of Taliban, who are constantly rendering the image for rest of the world.

1. The first verse that had been revealed upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was regarding “Knowledge” which explicitly did not mean only “male knowledge.” After the death of Muhammad Hazrat Aisha (RA) was the mere source as knowledge portal. Men and women traveled in Arab peninsula to learn from her, as she was connoisseur and had information regarding all doctrines.

2. The following Hadith is the best proof that alone is suffice to perish the dogmas that mark Islam as conservative religion for females.

“Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ashari: The Prophet said, “He who has a slave-girl and teaches her good manners and improves her education and then manumits and marries her, will get a double reward; and any slave who observes Allah’s right and his master’s right will get a double reward.” [Sahih Bukhari]

3. Once the Arab women said to the Prophet (PBUH) that men are ahead of them in everything in response to which the prophet asked them to acquire knowledge as quoted in Hadith:

“Women said to the Holy Prophet (PBUH): ‘men have gone ahead of us (in terms of acquisition of knowledge). Therefore, appoint a special day for our benefit as well.’ The Holy Prophet (PBUH) fixed one day for them. He (PBUH) would meet them on that day, advise them and educate them about commandments of ALLAH Almighty. [Sahih Bukhari]

Excerpts from Modern World

Muslim society even negates all the stereotypes that has chained with religion Islam being against women education. The Taliban dominated society i.e. Afghanistan has women captain pilot who has defused the pigeonholes. The Muslim dominating society have half the population comprise of women and all are in the top fields be engineering, Arm core, medical which prevail the neutral image of Islam that Islam the only acceptable religion is in favor of women education. Women education is of high importance because she is the first institution to impart education to her kids onwards making them the best for the society.

Surmising that religion Islam has always been in favor of female education and all those who are saying that it has barricaded women from education acquisition are lurking in the lost labyrinth to which there exist no light at the end of tunnel except for contemplating the Quran teachings to revive their mindset as narrated in Hadith that:

“Allah Almighty makes the path to paradise easier for him who walks on it for getting Education.” [Sahih Muslim]

Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) And Tolerance Towards Various Religions

Islam is the religion of peace, which is the sole accepted religion in sight of Allah Almighty. Despite this concrete fact, Islam realizes that there are plural of religions on earth as religion is not to be and can never be forced upon an individual against their will. No Muslim have steadfastly upheld the level of tolerance that Muhammad (PBUH) had portrayed in his era towards minorities yet the clear elicitation of tolerance is vivid from the verse of Quran for the Muslims that:

“For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.” [Quran 109: 6]

Islam has always been branded with the label of terrorism plus conservative religion and the reason is the pundits and fanatics who have grotesquely rendered the image of Islam. Historians especially the Orientals had presented the picture of Muslims as holding Quran in one hand and sword in another. West media has marked Islam an intolerant towards other faiths though the entire life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a paradigm in front of all where he was living in the time when rest of the religions like Christians, Zoroastrians, polytheists and Jews were affiliated with their own religions. In spite this all it clearly has stated in Quran that no compulsion is upon any other faith-bearing person:

“There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.” [Quran 2:256]

Islam Refute Forceful Conversion to Its Dogmas

Allah Almighty has clearly outlined the duties and atrocities of His messengers and thereupon no one is ever allowed to forcefully implying religion on another. The essence of this can be easily gauged in the verse of Quran in which Allah has marked the duties of His messengers as:

“Not upon the Messenger is [responsibility] except [for] notification. And Allah knows whatever you reveal and whatever you conceal.”

Muhammad (PBUH) and Tolerance

The whole persona of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) exemplifies the significance of tolerance towards other minorities. Once the people of asked Prophet Muhammad that why Allah did not inflict hardships and forcefully demolish the false Gods to prevail one true religion. Upon this Allah Almighty sent the following verse of Quran:

“And those who associate others with Allah say, “If Allah had willed, we would not have worshipped anything other than Him, neither we nor our fathers, nor would we have forbidden anything through other than Him.” Thus did those do before them. So is there upon the messengers except [the duty of] clear notification?” [Quran 16:35]

Probe the complete life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the non-believers would extract that Islam is the religion of forbearance. Jews were allowed to practice their faith and to recite Torah as they were having their own school of learning with the name of Bait-ul-Midras.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had advised his emissaries not to harm or demolish other faith’s institutions. Prophet’s letter to his followers is a glowing globe for the rest of his followers to respect and honor the worshipping places be synagogue, church or Mandirs of other faith. The letter held the following words:

“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them.  Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by God!  I hold out against anything that displeases them.  No compulsion is to be on them.  Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.  No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses.  Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet.  Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.  No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight.  The Muslims are to fight for them.  If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval.  She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.  Their churches are declared to be protected.  They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants.  No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”

The story of Najran Christian preacher is one such epitome of learning from Muhammad (PBUH) practices, which reflects the tolerance towards other creeds. In the historic book, the story has been quoted as:

The Prophet received a delegation of sixty Christians from the region of Najran, then a part of Yemen, at his mosque. When the time for their prayer came, they faced the direction of east and prayed. The Prophet ordered that they be left in their state and not harmed.

Maltreatment With Non Muslims

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has strictly warned his followers from maltreatment with non-Muslims. In Holy Quran, even Allah says that killing an innocent person (no distinction of religion implies here) is likely to slain mankind entirely [Quran 5:32]

“Beware! Whoever is cruel and harsh to a non-Muslim minority, curtailing their rights, overburdening them, or stealing from them, I will complain [to God].” [Abu Dawud]

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was lenient and kind enough towards all people and in this regard, he himself let alone was the perfect example until eternity. He commanded his followers as:

“And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.” [Quran 17:53]

The Bedouin story who urinated in Mosque shed light on the facts that how tolerant Muhammad (PBUH) was towards the non believers as narrated in Hadith:

“A desert Arab came and stood up and began to urinate in the mosque. The Companions of Allah’s Messenger said: Stop, stop, but the Messenger of Allah said: Do not interrupt him; leave him alone. They left him alone, and when he finished urinating, Allah’s Messenger called him and said to him: These mosques are not the places meant for urine and filth, but are only for the remembrance of Allah.” [Sahih Muslim]

Aforementioned are the excerpts that demonstrate the tolerance of religions by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and those who indiscriminately describe Muslim followers as aggressively intolerant believers should scrutinize the life of Muhammad, which is an apparent message to all the people that he was the merciful who was sent down as portal of guidance for all as stated:

“Say, [O Muhammad], “O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, [from Him] to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth….” [Quran 7:158]

Learn Quran Before You Pass Any Kind of Judgment

We are living in a time of lavishness where one prefers to gossip and has no ample time to testify the rumor. People befell for anecdotes resulting in wreckage leaving behind dust of truths and facts. Rumors usually are orphan enough to hatch a sheer truth hence deserves rectification prior judging someone on its fluke base. In trials and tribulations, the despondency of a person surpasses this mental analysis and become susceptible to the thrown false rumors.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whilst addressing sermon during his farewell Hajj knew that a time would come when his dire followers will succumb to the rumors of averted ones. Prophet has surmised the sermon with:

“O mankind! I have left behind over you that which if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the book of Allah and the Sunnah of His prophet.” [Al Bayhaqi]

Meaning, in your affairs and matters consult Quran and Sunnah before claiming or rejecting anything. The Hadith comprises both symbolical and spiritual context entailing to address the absolute source of authenticity revealed by the Exalted Rab of the universe.

Targeting Islam is a Cowardly Act

Quran is complete doctrine guiding people towards truth and embarking them with the enlightenment of Islamic teachings. Quran is all about the ways that Allah Almighty has ascribed for His worshippers for his salvation on the Day of Reckoning. Islam has always been a soft target for the west and its media hence creating doubts in the minds of people but this is a cowardly act.

Open the book of Quran and it has answers to every raised biased question of the westerns yet they do not contemplate what is within Quran but extract the meaning that do not sync with the divine teachings of Allah and Quran.

“We have neglected nothing in the Book, then unto their Lord they (all) shall be gathered.” [Quran 6:38]

1. Terrorism is Muslim monopoly

Muslim stereotypes are perpetuated in every form of Media accompanied by gross misinformation that has rendered facts about Muslims and Islam. No Muslim is a terrorist nor does Islam propel a person to take his gun and shoot his fellow brother. Islam is a religion of peace, scrutinize the history and one will come to know that Christians were the one who reddened the face of globe with crusade wars.

Post 9/11 the west has changed its course of dealings with Muslims and to them every Muslim is a terrorist. Reason being the verse of Quran in which Allah has stated:

“.. kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give Zakat, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” [9:5]

This verse has misquoted and misunderstood. The former verses have explained the context of this verse in which Allah commanded His followers to ambush and encounter the Jews and Christians in battlefield. This does not mean to kill every single non-believer, as a single killing is the slaying of entire nation for Allah has Quran has further cemented its proof as:

“If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind.” [5:32]

2. Veiled Women are the Oppressed Entity

Westerns are those who have never read Quran hence making an argument on naysayers belief is all that has rendered the image of Islam and Muslims. Whenever they spotted a veiled woman, they mocked her with follower of conservative religion subjugated to the male dominating clan. All baseless and absurd!

Muslims pay respect to their woman in a way commanded by Allah Almighty. The veil that has become laughing stock for west is now the most appreciated gesture in the west because of the soaring rape cases reported daily.

“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.” [33:59]

Veil is for the “known and distinct ones.” It is the height of ignorance of West towards Quran and Allah Almighty by mocking what should deem to be appreciated for Western sisters and daughters. Veil in not a symbol of subjugation but a sign of respect and honor, to be among the pure and pious in sight of their Rab.

3. Quran: A Fabricated Scripture

The speech of Quran is irrefutable and free of discrepancies but for the non-believers and idolaters it still is mere a book holding fabricated stories. Quran is a word of Allah and he has taken the responsibility to guard its divinity. Allah quotes in Quran:

“Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian.” [Quran 15:9]

A recent study of NASA is one such example in which they denied the fact of “moon splitting into two” however, the Quran has called it a miracle.

“The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, “Passing magic.” [54: 1-2]

News spread on social media that NASA confirmed the splitting of moon but later denied it with the title that no such evidence has found and Muslims are the idiots to believe everything in Quran. Denying the miracle of Lord is ignoring the absolute supremacy about which Allah has clearly stated before hand:

“[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. And Allah is severe in penalty.” [Quran 3:11]

The day is night when these idolaters will be flogged and accountable for their every single deed. Allah verily is the best judge when it comes to deal with the denied souls sagged in ignorance.

Quran is the ultimate source to distinguish the truth from false. Electronic Media, Print media and social sites are the prime cause of producing news of falsehood nature and nurtured it with exaggeration coated with flamboyancy. They pass on the news for media ratings oblivion of the shirk they are sinking deep into. Hence, verify the news despite its nature prior prevailing or handing it to other medium:

“O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.” [Quran 49:6]

Does Quran Allow Forcing Someone to Embrace Islam?

In present times, one of the greatest allegations that Islam as a religion in general and the Muslims in particular face is the coercion involved in converting people to Islam. The misconception about Islam is that it is a religion that allows or rather commends its followers to use force as a means of making people convert to Islam. This is a serious misconception and Islam in its preaching does not imply any use of force for converting people to Islam.

Islam is a religion of peace and it encourages its followers to be peaceful and live in harmony with one another as well as with people of other faith. The allegation that all the Islam that has spread is due to force or whatever expansion that is taking place is courtesy of the use of force is wrong. Islam does not encourage any such notion and wants its followers to be peaceful and spread Islam in the most moderate and thoughtful way possible. The lines below discuss the way in which Quran condemns the use of force when it comes to spreading the religion and making others accept Islam.

In Quran, Allah Almighty says:

“Surely We have revealed to you the Book with the truth  for all mankind; so whoever follows the right way, it is for his own soul and whoever errs, he errs only to its detriment; and you are not a custodian over them.” (39:41)

From this ayah of Quran it is clear that Allah Almighty has sent the truth down in the form of Islam and the Book Quran, therefore, finding the truth and seeking guidance rests upon the person and it is not the duty of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to make people accept Islam. The message is clear from this ayah that those who wish to find guidance will come to Islam and those who do not do so, they are free to not do so. Prophet (PBUH) is only responsible for the ones who accept Islam and who want to walk on the path of righteousness, those who do not wish to do so are not His responsibility or in other words those who wish to accept Islam at present are free to do so and Muslims are not accountable for their disbelief. Therefore, if such is the message then one cannot possibly assume that Islam forces its followers to use coercion as a means of spreading Islam.

People argue that the need behind the spread of Islam is that Muslims could rule the world and force upon others their Islamic way of living life. In Muslim belief Allah is the Supreme and He can do whatever He wants, therefore, the idea that Allah wants the spread of Islam through force is wrong because if He wanted people to be Muslim they would be Muslim, as He says in Quran:

“And if your Sustainer had pleased, surely all those who are in the earth would have believed, all of them; will you then force men till they become believers?” (10:99)

This ayah is a simple and straight justification behind the futility of use of force pertaining to spread of religion in Islam. In this ayah Allah Almighty clearly states that if He willed, all the people in the world would have been Muslims, therefore, there is no need of forcing people in becoming believers. Ergo, a person must understand that Allah wants people to come towards truth with understanding and out of willingness and not by force. Believing in the religion and its constituent from the heart is as important as proclaiming it from the tongue in Islam, therefore, a forceful proclamation of Islam from the tongue holds no value in Islam if the religion is not believed in it from the heart. Ergo, force cannot cause a person to change his or her heart about Islam therefore, it is not encouraged means of propagation of Islam.

As far as fighting the non-believers, overpowering them and then forcing them to convert to Islam is concerned, Allah Almighty says in Quran:

“Allah does not forbid you (O you who believe!) from being kind and just to those who have not waged war against you because of your religion and have not driven you out of your homes. Surely Allah loves those who are just. He only forbids you from making friends with those who have waged war against you because of your religion, have drive you out of your homes, and have supported others in driving you out. And whoever makes friends with them, these are the wrongdoers.” (60:8-9)

This ayah gives the justification for the use of force by Muslims against the non-believers. The use of force is not conditioned to the spread of religion, rather it is conditioned to the fact that those who harm the religion or those who aid in inflicting harm to Islam should be the ones who must be dealt with force. Otherwise, those who do not cause any harm to Islam or to Muslims should be dealt with kindness and justice. Therefore, there is no rationale behind the use of force as a means of spreading the religion in Islam and it is all but a false propagation.

Moreover, as far as the means of spreading the religion is concerned, Islam commends the use of moderation and reasoning so that people could be convinced and not forced to Islam. Allah Almighty says in Quran:

“Call (O Muhammad!) to the way of your Lord with Wisdom and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in the best manner; surely your Lord best knows those who go astray from His path, and He best knows those who follow the right way.” (16:125)

From the ayah it is clear that when it comes to preaching of religion and getting other people to embrace Islam, the proposed way is of reasoning and with good argumentation. Therefore, it seems illogical to presume that a religion that has its bases in good reasoning and best manner would encourage something like the use of force for making other people accept Islam.

In a nutshell, the use of force or any means of coercion for making people accept Islam is not encouraged in Quran or hadith. The best thing that a Muslim can do to preach Islam is to preach it with wisdom in argumentation and by incorporating the Islamic values in one’s character, afterwards it rests upon the person whether he or she believes in Islam or not. There is no room for compulsion of any sort.

“There is no compulsion in religion.”
